Information for Schools

Welcome

Thank you for seeking out ATA as a potential educational partner.  Our goal is to provide your students an extension of their education with experience in a technical work environment.

University Program development at ATA focuses on two things: students and their education.   We believe that “People are our greatest asset.”   This is evident in our everyday working environment.   By choosing ATA you will be providing your students with unique educational opportunities, focused career development and one-on-one mentor/student relationships to help them transfer education into work applications.

Our primary offerings for undergraduate students are in the areas of Cooperative Education and Intern Education. We also maintain some offerings for graduate students, primarily for Internship Educations. Please see below for additional opportunities in education and business-related partnerships.

Cooperative Education

ATA Cooperative Education Partners: (schools having an existing Cooperative Education relationship with ATA)
Tennessee Technological University -- Cookeville, TN
Tennessee State University – Nashville, TN
University of Alabama at Huntsville – Huntsville, AL
Alabama A&M University – Normal, AL
University of Tennessee – Knoxville, TN
University of Tennessee – Chattanooga, TN
Middle Tennessee State University – Murfreesboro, TN

Other University Cooperatives
If your school is not currently an ATA Cooperative Education Partner, you or your Career Development coordinator may contact ATA directly and request consideration of the school’s addition to our partnership list. A school must be on the current ATA partnership list before a student from the school would be eligible for our program.

Cooperative Education Experience
A Cooperative Education experience provides students with work experience while actively enrolled in a college degree program. Students may spend alternating or continuous spring, summer and/or fall semesters working full-time at AEDC for ATA instead of attending school classes on a university campus.

A Cooperative (Co-op) Education Student is considered: "A temporary employee who has completed at least 45 hours of university credits and is concurrently enrolled in an accredited engineering or related scientific degree program.  Co-ops agree to work for at least two semesters (alternating with school or consecutively) and may be employed for more than three semesters (with no more than three consecutive semesters of work without one semester of school."

ATA Co-ops agree to at least two alternating or continuous terms/semesters. Once a Co-op student has been accepted into the ATA program, he/she will not be required to re-interview for the following term(s) provided they maintain satisfactory performance reviews by ATA management and grades are satisfactorily maintained. Students work directly with the ATA University Program Coordinator and ATA management to coordinate the work/school schedule. This gives maximum flexibility to students needing to sign up for required classes while also maximizing related work experience during school enrollment. There are specific requirements to become an ATA Co-op Student (please see requirements).

Students may be given different work assignments for each of their work terms, or may spend all work terms contributing to the same work area. This provides a wealth of opportunities to learn different applications for each student’s degree and field of study. [Note that ATA work assignments may be influenced by high or low demand for work in any given area.] Upon graduation, students who have successfully performed all ATA work assignments may be considered preferred candidates to be interviewed for existing job openings.

Internships
An Internship experience provides students with work experience while actively enrolled in a college degree program. Students may spend a summer or several summers working full-time at AEDC for ATA.

An Intern Student is considered: "A temporary employee who has completed at least 60 hours of university credits and is concurrently enrolled as a student in an accredited engineering or related scientific degree program, who is employed over a period of approximately ten weeks between May and August."

Once an Intern student has been accepted into the ATA program, he/she will not be required to re-interview for additional term(s) provided they maintain satisfactory performance reviews by ATA management and grades are satisfactorily maintained. Students work directly with the ATA University Program Coordinator and ATA management to coordinate the work/school schedule.

It is important for all schools to note that ATA will accept students from any school with an accredited degree program that provides major/coursework for any of the majors listed below:

Co-op & Intern Majors:

If your school prefers to place students rather than have students work directly with ATA for placements, please advise us as to how to work with you. Many schools have formal relationships, formal programs and metrics or reporting procedures for students to follow. We will gladly work within those established systems. All we need is direction from you.
