A student can apply to the co-op program having the following qualifications:
- US citizenship (no dual citizenship)
- Minimum GPA of 2.75
- Completion of 45 hours of university credits
- Full-time enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate level accredited engineering or related scientific discipline degree program at one of ATA's Co-op Partner Schools
In addition to the above requirements, a candidate must be prepared to present a current resume, current transcript (unofficial copy is acceptable), documentation showing enrollment in the Cooperative Education Program at the candidate's university, and his/her proposed school/work schedule upon request.
To be considered for placement in an ATA University Program, a student must apply online and be interviewed by the ATA University Program staff and Interview Team. The selection process is based on GPA (both overall and in major), coursework completed, interpersonal skills, technical aptitude, organizational skills, demonstration of teamwork, related experience, and interest in the work done at AEDC.
ATA embraces the principles of equal employment opportunity and will consider a student for placement in the program without regard to race, color, religion, gender, age, national origin, disability, handicap, or veteran status (Vietnam Era or other).
A co-op student agrees to work at AEDC for ATA for at least two semesters (Spring, Summer, and/or Fall) instead of attending classes on a university campus and is considered a temporary, full-time employee. The two required semesters may be alternated with school or completed consecutively. Once the co-op student's commitment has been fulfilled, he/she is eligible to continue working during the Summer at ATA until completion of his/her degree.
A students should work directly with the ATA University Program Coordinator and ATA management to coordinate his/her work/school schedule. This gives maximum flexibility to a student needing to sign up for required classes while also maximizing related work experience during school enrollment.
Once a co-op student has been accepted into the ATA University Program, he/she will not be required to re-interview for the following term(s) provided his/her work performance is acceptable and satisfactory academic standing is maintained.
A co-op student may be given different work assignments for each of his/her work terms or may spend all work terms contributing to the same work area (depending on the demand for work in any given area). This provides a wealth of opportunities to learn different applications for each student's degree and field of study. Upon graduation, a student who has performed all ATA work assignments and received acceptable performance reviews may be considered a preferred candidate to be interviewed for existing job openings. |
